Family Therapy
Family-based therapeutic support is designed to improve the participant’s emotional regulation, behaviour, and daily functioning within the home environment.
Sessions involve key family members where clinically indicated to support the participant’s functional outcomes. This service is delivered under Capacity Building supports and is focused on improving the participant’s functional skills and independence.

When to refer
Participants may be referred for Family Therapy when:

Relational dynamics within the family are impacting the participant’s daily functioning and participation.

There are patterns of interaction (e.g., conflict, escalation, withdrawal) contributing to emotional or behavioural difficulties.
-
Caregivers require support to develop more functional ways of responding to the participant’s needs.
-
There are ongoing difficulties in parent–child or family relationships affecting stability at home.
-
The participant’s needs cannot be effectively addressed through individual therapy alone and require a systemic approach.
-
Family stressors (e.g., transitions, separation, changes in care arrangements) are affecting functioning within the home environment.
-
There is a need for coordinated intervention involving family members to support sustainable change in daily life.
Who it's for
Participants where relational dynamics within the family are impacting functioning, including:

Difficulties with emotional regulation affecting behaviour at home.

Parent–child interaction patterns contributing to distress or escalation.
-
Challenges supporting a participant with developmental, behavioural, or psychosocial disability impacting daily functioning.

Family stressors impacting the participant’s daily functioning (e.g., transitions, separation).

Situations requiring coordinated, systemic intervention to support functional outcomes​.
Interventions are aligned with NDIS goals and documented through outcome-focused reporting where required.
What to expect

Support for generalisation of skills across settings (home, school, community).

Clear, outcome-focused reporting available to support plan reviews and ongoing funding decisions.
